SDCC Announces Next In-Person Convention Dates
Earlier this month, Comic-Con International had announced that San Diego Comic-Con, the largest celebration of all things pop culture, would, for the second year in a row, not be held in person. However, the organization promised a smaller in-person event for later in the year.
Today, we learned that “Comic-Con Special Edition” is scheduled for Thanksgiving weekend from Friday November 26 to Sunday November 28, 2021 at the San Diego Convention Center. Pertinent details, such as badge cost and attendance capacity are still being planned. The three-day event will definitely be on a smaller scale than actual Comic-Con, as the full in-person Comic-Con has been pushed back to July 2022. With San Diego temperature averaging in the low 70’s in November, an outdoor event or a hybrid is still a possibility. San Diego is currently in the Red Tier, and is trending down toward the Orange Tier as COVID-19 vaccination effort continues in the city and the rest of California.
Wonder-Con@Home happened online this past Friday and Saturday March 27- 28, 2021. Comic-Con@Home will be held online July 23-25, 2021. Other major conventions in California are also moving online in 2021 . FanimeCon is scheduled for May 22- 25, 2021, and Anime Expo Lite is scheduled for July 3- 4, 2021.
