According to Bespin Bulletin, Sam Sheridan penned a draft of the upcoming Star Wars project Rogue Squadron. Sheridan is husband to the project director, Patty Jenkins, and has previously worked on the series SEAL Team and I Am the Night as a writer. This bit of info is likely to fuel speculation that Rogue Squadron is being retooled into a Disney+ series rather than the theatrical film it originally was.

Announced back in December 2020, Rogue Squadron was ready to let its wings fly with a December 2023 release. Just under a year after that announcement, Lucasfilm removed it from their schedule, which left the future of big-screen Star Wars projects in a very uncertain place. Another year passed, with the project disappearing from the production calendar completely. A statement from Patty Jenkins says that Wonder Woman 3 took priority, but with that film now cancelled, the development of Rogue Squadron is continuing.

But in what form? After its apparent cancellation in March 2023, an IGN interview with Kathleen Kennedy at Star Wars Celebration revealed that Rogue Squadron still gets discussed as a project. “Whether it’s a movie, or whether it ends up being in the series space, that’s definitely something.” The only definite fact we have on this project is that it won’t be on the big screen any time soon.

During Star Wars Celebration 2023, three new films were announced at the opening panel, with Dave Filoni, James Mangold, and Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy each helming one of those three.
