SAG-AFTRA Leaders Tell Members They Are In A Strong Position For A "Seminal Deal"
As the Writers Guild of America continues in its strike with the Alliance of Film and Television Producers with no end, leadership for the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) announced their negotiations are “extremely productive.” Union president Fran Drescher and National Executive Direct and Chief Negotiator Duncan Crabtree-Ireland announced in a video to their members saying how discussions between the two sides are “laser-focused on all the crucial issues you told us are most important to you…we’re standing strong and we’re going to achieve a seminal deal.” Negotiations between SAG and AFTRA began on June 7 and will expire on June 30.
Crabtree-Island said explicitly in the video how both sides are working within a “very narrow window of time” and how “we’ve been working long and hard to move these talks forward, and we remain optimistic that we will be able to bring the studios, networks, and streamers along to make a fair deal that respects your contributions to this industry.
With the WGA-AFTRA strike ongoing, many in the industry believed the SAG would follow suit as nearly 98 percent of voting members authorized going on strike after contracts expired on June 30. And if this were to happen, unions would issue an industry-wide production shutdown to every project currently in production.
In the video, Fran Drescher boldly told members, “We will keep you posted as events progress, and until then, unity, solidarity, and strength.”
