'Ru Paul's Drag Race' Winner Shea Couleé Joins Marvel’s Upcoming 'Ironheart' Series On Disney+

Shea Coulee

RuPaul’s Drag Race veteran, Shee Coulee, has been cast in Ironheart, an upcoming Disney+ series based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. While sources at Deadline were unable to confirm which role Coulee would be playing, many die-hard Marvel fans speculate that the fan-favorite RuPaul queen will be playing Darkveil, a drag queen and de-facto X-Men member with teleportation powers. Ironically (or delightfully) enough, Coulee stated in a 2021 interview with Fast Company that she wanted to play Darkveil.

The upcoming series’ titular hero Ironheart (aka Riri Williams) debuted in Marvel’s Invincible Iron Man series in May 2016 as a 15-year-old engineering prodigy that builds her own Iron Man suit, winning her the posthumous endorsement of Tony Stark (it’s a LONG story). Dubbing herself “Ironheart,” Williams became involved with numerous Marvel events such as Civil War II, Secret Empire, and the teen hero group, the Champions.

In addition to Coulee, the Ironheart series has cast Dominique Thorne in the lead role as Riri Williams (though she will debut in Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever first), Anthony Ramos (Hamilton, In The Heights), Lyric Ross (This Is Us), and Alden Ehrenreich (Beautiful Creatures, Solo: A Star Wars Story). Chinaka Hodge was also announced as the show’s head writer along with Sam Bailey (Dear White People) are set to direct some episodes as well.

Ironheart is expected to be part of the MCU’s “Phase Five” and is scheduled for a late 2023 release.
