Robert Rodriguez Confirms ‘Boba Fett’ Trailers Are All From The Beginning Of The Pilot Episode

With the premier of The Book of Boba Fett quickly approaching on December 29th, most fans will be shocked to hear that the trailers that have been released are compiled footage from only the first episode. Robert Rodriguez confirms Boba Fett trailers are all from the beginning of the pilot episode. According to Rodriguez, they had to use quite a bit of restraint when releasing the trailers, stating in the Hollywood Reporter “We can’t use the second half of the first episode because it gives so much away,” this only makes the anticipation for the premier of The Book of Boba Fett grow that much more.

There is little known about The Book of Boba Fett yet, other than it's the return of Temuera Morrison, who played Boba’s father, Jango Fett, in the Star Wars prequel movie, Attack of the Clones. At his side is his assassin friend and lieutenant, Fennec Shand, played by Ming-Na Wen who first appeared in The Mandalorian episode, The Gunslinger. The Book of Boba Fett was first announced at the end of the second season finale of The Mandalorian in December of 2020. The scene began with the Hutt palace on Tatooine, with Bib Fortuna sitting on the throne before Fennec Shand descends down the stairs of the palace, blasting anyone in her way. When Boba Fett walks down the stairs to the throne room, Bib Fortuna starts nervously commenting in Huttese that he recognized Boba and thought him dead. Boba, in pure Fett-fashion, shoots Bib Fortuna dead, without saying a word, before shoving him out of the throne and taking his place with Fennec Shand at his side. The new Boba Fett theme, composed by Ludwig Göransson, begins to play as the camera slowly pans out before fading to black, and the words "The Book of Boba Fett" appearing on screen. Since then, fans have been eagerly waiting for the first episode, while coming up with their own theories of what could be in store for our favorite bounty hunter.

From Boba Fett’s very first appearance, no one could have imaged that his character would become one of the most iconic and loved characters in the Star Wars franchise. Some fans may not know, but Boba Fett first debuted in September 24, 1978 in the San Anselmo Country Fair Parade. He would appear next in the animated segment of 1978's The Star Wars Holiday Special as Vader’s sneaky “right-hand man” before ultimately appearing in The Empire Strikes Back, where he only had a whopping 6 minutes and 32 seconds of screen time and only a total of four lines.

Still, Boba Fett would forever be loved and remembered despite having such a quick and disappointing “death”, plummeting into the Sarlacc pit in the first act of Return of the Jedi. One thing fans are excited to see is how Boba Fett survived the Sarlacc pit in the first place. While The Mandalorian made no such attempt to explain the return of Boba Fett, The Book of Boba Fett certainly will. In the trailer, a scene (below) possibly teases Boba Fett’s recovery from his time being digested by the Sarlacc. But fans will just have to wait for December 29th to find out.

With the premier of The Book of Boba Fett right around the corner, fans will finally get to see their favorite bounty hunter the way the character has always deserved. But Boba Fett might not be the only character fans will be excited to see. Dave Filoni states in the Hollywood Reporter “Boba gives us a direct connection to the Star Wars saga since he was involved in that story, this creates a nice crossover point for both classic characters and new characters.” There’s no telling what characters could be brought into The Book of Boba Fett but luckily fans won't have to wait long to see if their theories come true.
