Season 2 of The Rings of Power recently wrapped up. The finale was full of fights and big reveals. One of the characters in the series is the elf Elrond. In the show, he is much younger than fans may be used to and is played by Robert Aramayo. Recently, the actor sat down with Nerdist and discussed the finale.

Throughout the season, Elrond is very hesitant when it comes to using the rings of power. By the end of the season, however, he embraced their potential. Aramayo says that it was Galadriel who finally convinced Elrond to use the ring. Galadriel is on the verge of death when Elrond shows up and has two ways to go. Aramayo thinks Elrond chose the correct path when it came to the ring. He goes on to say that Elrond is comfortable not wearing one and isn’t sure when Elrond will inherit the ring in the show.

Elrond and Durin have a special friendship.  Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see much of it in this season, but Ararmayo says that he hopes that Elrond and Durin will have more scenes together in future seasons. Elrond is “different around Durin. He’s just a different elf, and they understand each other on such a different level.” He also calls Durin Elrond’s “best mate.”

Aramayo goes on to discuss what has changed in Elrond and what has stayed the same. Elrond is older now and “has had experiences he’s never had before. He’s been in battle now, which he’s never seen before, and he’s lost people who are really, really important to him”. At the core, though, he’s still the same character, and even though he is older, a lot of his characteristics have remained the same. Araramayo says that sometimes Elrond won’t agree with an idea, and will leave, but “he is always drawn back in. And what draws him back in is his sense of duty and honor and helping the sort of larger cause to do the right thing”. Elrond is a good guy, and that will always remain the same.

When it comes to Tolkien lore, Aramayo knows his stuff. He revealed that he is currently rereading Children Of Hurin and just finished the Battle Of Unnumbered Tears. He says it’s the most interesting thing he has read and that the story is currently still on his mind.
