Squidgame, the popular dystopian survival thriller originating from South Korea, will be getting a third season. Not only that but a specific date has been announced: June 27. It is described as “Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) after losing his best friend in the game and being driven to utter despair by The Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), who was hiding his true identity to infiltrate the game. Gi-hun persists with his goal to put an end to the game, while the Front Man continues onto his next move and the surviving players’ choices will lead to graver consequences with each round.”
The second season was extremely successful, being the most-watched series on Netflix on the week of December 23-29 2024. Although it will be the final season of the show, the universe it is set in might still get more content later. “When we were doing season one, I was saying there was never going to be another season,” said writer Hwand Dong- hyuk, who will be returning for season 3. “And so if the time comes, and it just so happens that I’m able to come up with a character or a different story, then maybe there might be a comeback. But I’m thinking more along the lines of a spinoff.”
