Exciting news about the upcoming Star Wars series, Skeleton Crew, has been released.  A solid release date has been named, new stills released, and some details surrounding the series were discussed in an interview with People Magazine.  Skeleton Crew hits Disney+ on December 3, 2024.  Series star Jude Law and creators Jon Watts and Christopher Ford spoke about the plot and finer details surrounding the show.

Law stated that his character, as well as the four child main characters, are "all in constant state of confusion and jeopardy and challenge."  The series is described as a coming-of-age story as a group of children make a discovery on their home planet and get lost in the larger galaxy, trying to find their way home; Law goes deeper, stating that it’s "very much a piece about working together and overcoming fears and overcoming...perhaps [one's] opinion of oneself or one's own weaknesses in order to succeed."

Watts introduced a new droid character called SM 33, "He's like a rusty old, cranky droid that sort of reluctantly helps the kids along the way."  He continued, "The other thing about him is that he's the first mate of a mysterious ship."  Law took the time to highlight the way these types of characters are brought to life, "Of course, you were expecting to work with droids and alien species, but you forget that they're brought to life in front of you by these extraordinary people who have skills, whether it's puppets or as animatronic experts. You're surrounded by them because they're as much a part of the cast as those who are flesh and blood."

Easter eggs are something to watch for in the series.  Watts gushed about details hidden in the first episode alone, and stated that overall, there are "a lot of easter eggs.”  Ford noted that during the show's creation, they had "the fun and the challenge of finding some deep cut [references]."

A common concern regarding additions to well-established fandoms is the need for a lot of background knowledge.  Watts explained, "You don't have to know everything about Star Wars to enjoy the show. You can come into it completely fresh and enjoy the story. But if you do happen to be a Star Wars super fan, there's a lot for you."  Either way, everyone will win when it comes to this show.
