Qui-Gon Jinn's Cameo In Kenobi Series Teased By ‘Star Wars’?
As the world continues to dive into content post-Skywalker saga with the Star Wars franchise, unknown stories about familiar and popular characters from that series are continuing to pop up in various media courtesy of Disney and their popular streaming service Disney+ in many offshoot events. The highly anticipated miniseries Obi-Wan Kenobi from The Mandolorian season 1 director Deborah Chow is reaching a fever pitch among the fandom. There is speculation among the social media sphere about one popular Jedi Master character from the prequel trilogy, and whether he may return to the franchise in this huge limited series event.
Recently, a Reddit user known as ScoutTheTrooper pointed out possible evidence that Qui-Gon Jinn himself portrayed by Liam Neeson will appear in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series. Another Reddit user called NumidianPrime found an excerpt from the new book Skywalker: A Family At War, a fictional biography about the Skywalkers that is actually canon to the Star Wars franchise. Within it is a potential bombshell about Qui-Gon, saying that it takes Obi-Wan Kenobi ten years to communicate with his fallen Master.
“Before he and Yoda had parted ways, the old Jedi revealed that Obi-Wan's beloved master Qui-Gon Jinn had returned from the netherworld of the Force, manifesting his conscious mind even after death. It took 10 years, but eventually Obi-Wan was able to commune with his dearest friend, resurrected within the cosmic Force."
If this excerpt is a clue, given that Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place ten years after Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, then this information is a big indicator that the Academy Award-nominated could possibly show up in the miniseries, probably to give Obi-Wan tips on how to commune with others in Force ghost form.
At the end of Revenge of the Sith, that possible reunion was teased by Yoda when talking to Obi-Wan Kenobi about splitting up the Skywalker twins. There was talk about how Kenobi would have training on Tatooine while in exile.
Yoda: "In your solitude on Tatooine, training I have for you."
Obi-Wan: "Training?"
Yoda: "An old friend has been the path to immortality. One who has returned from the netherworld of the Force, your old master."
Obi-Wan: "Qui-Gon?"
Yoda: "How to commune with him, I will teach you..."
Small Screen broke an exclusive story a while ago that Liam Neeson would be returning as the Jedi Master in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series. According to them, they were informed that he would be coming back as a Force ghost or perhaps within a flashback in the series. Here is what they say their source, allegedly close to Lucasfilm, said:
“That deal’s already done. Liam Neeson will be playing Qui-Gon Jinn in Kenobi.”
“Honestly, I’m not 100 percent certain on how they’ll bring the character back. It sounds like it’ll be in a flashback sequence, yet they could also be thinking of bringing him back as a Force Ghost. More info when I get it.”
Overall, the possible reunion between Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor would be great for all the generational fans in Star Wars fandom. It would be interesting to see how everything goes down. Will it be a flashback? Or will the reunion actually be shown with the possible training on Tatooine? Either way, this is an exciting time to be a fan!
Again, Obi-Wan Kenobi will be directed by Deborah Chow, who also wrote the limited series. Ewan McGregor will be returning as Obi-Wan. He’ll be joined by Hayden Christensen, who will be returning as Darth Vader. The rest of the show’s cast includes Moses Ingram, Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Kumail Nanjiani, Rupert Friend, O’Shea Jackson Jr., Sung Kang, Simone Kessell, and Benny Safdie.
There is no release date yet for Obi-Wan Kenobi. Currently, it is expected to be released in 2022.
