New Captain Marvel Sequel Casting Has A Link To The Silver Surfer
As fans anxiously wait for the upcoming The Marvels movie, there has been news indicating that a Fantastic Four character may be making an appearance. There is a good chance that the Silver Surfer could be connected to The Marvels after One Take News spotted actor Colin Stoneley’s resume on the casting site Mandy. The actor has been cast to play Pap Tonn in The Marvels. This character is mostly known for his one-time appearance in Silver Surfer Vol. 3 #8. Most fans may not be familiar with the character or his connection with the Silver Surfer. Pap Tonn is a Kree scientist who performed experiments on the Silver Surfer’s surfboard while the Silver Surfer himself was captured by the Kree’s leader, the Supreme Intelligence. Unfortunately for Pap Tonn, his experiments all ended in failure and the character was never seen again.
Many details surrounding the story and characters of The Marvels are still unknown at this time. What is known is that new actors have been added to the casting list for the Captain Marvel sequel including Zawe Ashton as the main antagonist and Park Seo Joon (Parasite) in an unknown role. Thanks to a deleted Instagram story, fans could see Tessa Thompson’s headshot among the cast, hinting that she may be returning to reprise her role as Valkyrie from Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Endgame. The Marvels will feature a team-up of Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), and Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani), along with the character Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) as an Agent of S.W.O.R.D.

The Marvels director Nia DaCosta spoke about balancing the story with the three distinct heroes:
"It’s interesting, and something we thought about and worked through a lot, which was how do we get each of these really big, exciting heroes space in a two-hour film? Captain Marvel has a history from the first film, Kamala will have her Ms. Marvel show, and Monica Rambeau, we’ve only seen her a little bit in WandaVision."
DaCosta further shared the production team’s thought process:
"What part of the journey do we need to see for each of them? How do we honor the part of the story they're at in terms of the canon, while also within our story making them equal?"
Brie Larson gave her insight into the upcoming film:
"I can talk about my feelings around it, I can say that… I can’t say enough about how incredible our director, Nia DaCosta, is and what an honor it was to work with her, what an immense talent she is, how much I just feel like she’s the future. And I could also say that, when I read the script for the first time, I couldn’t believe what I was reading. I was like, this is bonkers."
Larson was careful not to give any spoilers away in any of her comments, keeping details of the film a mystery.
With its amazing cast, The Marvels is sure to wow both seasoned fans and new ones. Samuel L. Jackson is also set to return to reprise his role as Nick Fury. The first film, Captain Marvel, was first released back on March 4, 2019. So now, after four years, fans will once again see Nick Fury reunite with Carol Danvers on the big screen and all their banter. Fans can expect The Marvels to finally hit theaters on February 17, 2023.
