Ming-Na Wen Takes Us Behind The Scenes Of ‘Book Of Boba Fett’

As viewers, we wait in anticipation for the big action sequence that was featured in the trailers to unfold on screen. Sometimes, it pays off. Other times, not so much. The one thing that is always fascinating is the Making-of featurettes that we get on the blu-ray. Recently, while on the set of The Book of Boba Fett, actress Ming-Na Wen was able to show viewers some of the happenings going on behind the scenes during the shoot.

Fennec Shand is a brand new character created specifically for The Mandalorian. Even though she was killed in her very first appearance, she was later resurrected, and had now crossed over onto the spin-off series starring Temuera Morrison. Wen has shared that she feels like this role is a dream come true and she is grateful to have the second chance to explore the character some more:

"When I showed up on The Mandalorian Season 1, I died. But by the grace of the Force, I was resurrected."

Shand would later returned in Chapter 14 which was titled “The Gunslinger.”

In the video “Ming-Na’s Dream Role,” Wen added that Fennec Shand is  "a dream role of a lifetime."

"I'm a massive Star Wars fan. To be a part of Star Wars and then to be part of Boba Fett's incredible legacy... there are just no words."

Wen had also taken her character to the animated side of the Star Wars universe. Fennec Shand appeared in The Bad Batch, which concluded its first season in 2021. As Shand is a new character, there is no fan theories on where the character could go based on past history. The writer already left her for dead once, so fans are never quite sure what to expect when it comes to the talented assassin. It has been a delight to watch Wen perform. She had previously appeared in Mulan and was a big part of the success of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for Marvel. Now Wen has taken on another massive IP in Star Wars and is soaking up every minute of it.

Fennec Shand owes her life to Boba Fett. His identity was not revealed to the audience right away when he first found her. It was later shown that Fett helped her by getting her mechanical organs so that she could survive. Shand remains loyal to Fett early on in The Book of Boba Fett, acting as his enforcer in Mos Espa. As the first season progresses , it remains to be seen who will come for the throne now occupied by the bounty hunter.

Another question looms on the back of people's mind is whether Shand will make an appearance in the ongoing Star Wars comics published by Marvel. The comics have recently brought back another character Qi'Ra and her crime syndicate Crimson Dawn. It seems like nothing is outside the realm of possibility as characters could cross over in any medium.

Star Wars’ rich history is becoming even richer thanks in large part to original characters like Fennec Shand, and original stories like The Book of Boba Fett. It is thrilling to know that every character and maybe every cameo are still in play. There are some wild theories as to who may or may not be alive in the galaxy far, far away. It would be very cool if some of those theories start coming to life in various ways. The Book of Boba Fett is just the tip of the iceberg as far as Star Wars is concerned and that is exciting in itself. For now, let's just keep enjoying the thrill ride as 2022 and beyond have some amazing things lined up.
