Nintendo Has Announced That They Have Acquired Anime Studio Dynamo Pictures
Nintendo seems to be jumping into the animation game with the announced acquisition of anime studio Dynamo Pictures. The video game giant has announced that it has acquired 100% of the outstanding shares of Dynamo's stock in an announcement that it made today. Dynamo will be renamed Nintendo Pictures and will “focus on the development of visual content utilizing Nintendo IP.”
Dynamo Pictures has been involved in the production of several titles including films such as Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, Evangelion 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, and Maquia-When the Promised Flower Blooms. They have also worked on CG visuals for video games such as Death Stranding, Nier Replicant, Monster Hunter World, Persona 5, and Metroid Other M, so while it may seem that Nintendo is jumping into the animation entertainment space, the company may have very well acquired the studio for work on its video game titles as well. The studio had also worked on the Pikmin Short Movies, so it did have a previous relationship with Nintendo. Though some are speculating this could lead to feature films, short films, or television productions, nothing is set in stone at this point. Nonetheless, the implications of a wholly Nintendo owned animation studio are interesting, to say the least. The deal is expected to close by October 3rd, 2022.
