In an era of remakes both in film and games, some emerge successful while others flounder. Endemic of an entertainment industry stuck in the comfort zone and going with what they know will sell; there is at least a market for it. There are plenty of games fans clamor for as a remake using today’s technology. Many of the classics, like Chrono Trigger and Starfox 64, are typically on the list.

One game that usually comes up in remaking classics discussions includes Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and it looks like fans’ wishes will come true. At Nintendo’s recent Direct, they revealed that a remake of the classic Super Nintendo game will launch later this year.

The original game was released in 1996 on the SNES and quickly became a classic and most beloved Mario game. It was made by Square Enix and featured fan-favorite Mario characters like the man himself, Princess Peach, Bowser, and then two new characters, Mallow and Geno. Together, they are after the Smithy Gang that stole seven stars needed to repair the Star Road. It features characteristic Square RPG-style turn-based combat and iconic major bosses like Birdo.

To add to the excitement among fans, it’s been revealed that the original composer, Yoko Shimomura, will be reprising her role for the remake, likely bringing updates to the original soundtrack by making use of modern equipment. Her resume is extensive, including games like Parasite Eve, Kingdom Hearts, and Mario and Luigi. This news should be welcome by adoring fans.

Mark your calendars for November 17, and get ready to relive a classic Mario adventure.
