New 'Venom: Let There Be Carnage' Trailer Drops

With only a few months to go until the hotly anticipated Venom sequel is due to hit theaters, Sony have gone ahead and dropped a brand new trailer to let fans get a better taste of just what is in store for them. The only word I can think of to describe it, is carnage.

The first film saw Tom Hardy take on the role of Eddie Brock, a reporter who bonds with the Venom symbiote and focused on the building of a relationship between the two. A post-credits scene then introduced us to Cletus Kasady, played by Woody Harrelson. Fans of these characters immediately realized this inclusion teased a live-action appearance of Venom's nemesis from the comics, Carnage. Fans were super excited at this prospect, and when the title of the sequel was announced to be Let There Be Carnage, we knew it was pretty much a done deal.

The first trailer was dropped a couple months back and gave us a better look at Harrelson's Kasady, fresh with a new hair style after fan complaints from the post-credits scene, but didn't let us see a great deal of Carnage in action. It seemed to focus more on Brock continuing to work on a relationship with the symbiote and live alongside it, with what is sure to result in some hilarious results, but the new trailer gives us so much more. Check it out for yourself below:

As you'll see, the new trailer puts a bit more focus on Carnage, specifically his origin, and gives us a taste of some of his powers, including dodging bullets and the ability to produce spikes, much like his appearances in the comics and cartoons. Whilst the comic symbiote has taken on many different forms and colors, this is the first time we will see the red version in live-action. Based on Venom's reaction in the trailer, it's safe to assume he's going to be caught well off guard and will need to really work on bonding with Venom to have any hope of taking him down. Everything about Carnage, from his powers to the difference in how he takes over the host's body (Harrelson's face warps into Carnage whereas Venom creates more of a protective shell around Eddie Brock), suggests he may be more powerful than Venom and will make him a very formidable foe indeed.

The trailer wasn't all Venom and Carnage, though, as we also see more of the villain Shriek (Naomie Harris), who in the comics is romantically linked to Carnage. This likely means we will see an element of this transport to the silver screen and, potentially, form part of the plot. However, we will likely have to wait for the film to actually release before understanding her role in the film. We'll also see the return of Eddie's ex-girlfriend Anne Weying, played by Michelle Williams and her new beau Dan Lewis, played by Reid Scott.

Hello, World!

With Andy Serkis at the helm and Venom co-writer Kelly Marcel returning to write the script based on ideas both she and Hardy had, it's safe to assume the film is in good hands and could potentially be bigger than the first outing. Could it even lead to a threequel later down the line?

The film has been scheduled for a September release date, but with the trailer confirming it will be released in fall, we will just need to be patient and see what happens when it comes out. One thing is for sure, though: we are definitely in for a bumpy ride.

Until next time!
