New Trailer Appears For 'Popeye' Horror Take

In the past few years, the slasher genre has seen an influx of killers based on childhood icons. While it’s nothing new, it really got going when Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey earned far past its budget at the box office. Since then, we’ve gotten/will get, as a short an in no way exhaustive list, killer Peter Pan, Bambi, Steamboat Willie, Piglet, Cinderella, the Three Blind Mice, and Popeye. We have three upcoming Popeye slasher films, with the trailer for one of them, Popeye’s Revenge, having just come out.
It’s just Popeye by way of Friday the 13th.
The plot follows a group of young adults who go to the woods to find out more about the legend of Popeye, who drowned as a young boy. Popeye is back, and much brutal killing follows. What’s frustrating is that they show a lot of the kills onscreen, so there’s going to be virtually no suspense as to who, if anyone, survives since we saw most of the deaths in the trailer. I guess not everyone can make a perfect trailer like the one for 28 Years Later.
Popeye’s Revenge released on Amazon Prime Video on February 13th.
