New ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Trailer Just Dropped!
We're three weeks away from the first episode of the new Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi, the highly anticipated limited series following the fan favourite Jedi as he navigates hiding from the forces of the Empire bent on snuffing out any hint of the light side of the Force, all while watching over the growing Luke Skywalker.
Fans are eager for any new information surrounding the show. Images, interviews, and articles circle the world online in seconds when anything new is released. Even with three weeks to go, there's a tight level of security around information pertaining to the show. It's no surprise, given how tight-lipped Ewan McGregror had to be for years concerning his return to the titular character. So it's expected that anticipation is at a boiling point for more previews of the show.
And today, their excitement was satisfied. Disney just released the new trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi. It's full of juicy bits of information to hopefully tide us over for the next few weeks. So, what's new? Let's break it down:
It starts with Obi-Wan warning about the Inquisitors, and that they are coming. He refers to a "we" that needs to hide, so it's possible he's talking to another Jedi? We'll see.
Obi-Wan and Luke's uncle, Owen Lars, are not exactly on good terms it seems, matching up with the way Uncle Owen talks about him in A New Hope. Owen presses Obi-Wan to leave them alone, and Obi-Wan urges that when he is of age Luke should be trained. The tension could be due to the threat of the Inquisitors, who have been seen confronting Owen, and Owen just wants to keep his family safe.
The Inquisitors are finally explicitly stating that they are looking for Obi-Wan. They state that they want every bounty hunter in the galaxy to be looking for him. We do see what looks to be 4-LOM shooting at Obi-Wan. There are comics where Obi-Wan confronts Black Krrsantan, so we may see him show up as well. And after the recent success of The Book of Boba Fett, it's entirely possible Boba shows up too.
We finally see Kumail Nanjiani's character for a brief second, and he looks in pain or saddened.
Finally, Vader makes his appearance through a montage of shots where his suit is being assembled, and it's dubbed over by the Third Sister Inquisitor's voice telling Obi-Wan he can't run forever, and you can't escape him.
It left me with chills. I can't wait to see the show drop on May 27.
Here's what else we do know about the show so far:
It takes place about ten years after Revenge of the Sith. That put's Luke at about the age Anakin was when he met Obi-Wan in The Phantom Menace.
It takes place on Tatooine and at some point on another planet. We also see Fortress Inquisitorious on Nur, which fans will remember from one of the final levels of Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order. It's the headquarters of the Inquisitors, the Sith-but-not-Sith who hunt down Jedi and force sensitives, and it's smack dab in the middle of an ocean on Nur.
Speaking of Inquisitors, the ominous-named hunters that first appeared in Star Wars: Rebels make their live action debut, including some we've already met like the Grand Inquisitor, and some new faces.
Obi-Wan and Vader will face off again, or...for the first time (remember, this takes place before the first movie A New Hope). New promotional posters have shown Obi-Wan and Vader clashing with their lightsabers.
Natalie Holt is taking the reigns for composer, and we also know John Williams is back, having recorded a new theme for the show.
