New Co-Op 'Elden Ring' Announced At The Game Awards
There were many new games revealed at the 2024 Game Awards, but among the most notable has to be Elden Ring Nightreign.
This spinoff from Elden Ring is a standalone adventure set in a parallel world, though with many familiar faces making a return in the form of characters, enemies, bosses, and locations from the Limgrave portion of Elden Ring’s world map. However, there are also faces from Dark Souls games making an appearance, as Nightreign seemingly embraces a story with multiverse elements.
Just what has caused these Dark Souls characters and enemies to enter the world of Nightreign is not clear. It likely has to do with the powers of the Night Lord, the ultimate boss at the end of a challenging gauntlet of eight other bosses, each one fought at the end of a three-day in-game cycle.

The gameplay will focus on this cycle, as a player, either playing solo or in co-op after being matched with two other players, will dive into the world to explore, gather resources, and level up while avoiding a shrinking barrier each day. The day ends in a fight with a boss, and as mentioned earlier, after three days, a major boss appears. A set of eight heroes characters will be available for players to select, each having their own special powers and focuses in the game.
This turn toward the multiplayer genre is an interesting move by FromSoftware and might reflect their awareness of the popularity of co-op mods for Elden Ring. However, Nightreign definitely has differences from the core Elden Ring experience and seems like an intriguing experiment that will hopefully pay off.
Elden Ring Nightreign launches on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC Digital sometime in 2025.
