The Assassin’s Creed franchise has always been popular. It’s also one of Ubisoft’s biggest IPs. You get to explore history, by playing a character who experienced. The catch is, however, that the character in the game was released to the modern-day character. It’s a bit confusing unless you know the entire story. The franchise has now expanded from console and PC to tabletop RPGs.

A new tabletop role-playing game will be based on the popular franchise, however, instead of playing a character from history, the game will focus on the Animus itself. This is a piece of futuristic tech that lets people experience what it was like to live in the past. It’s also a form of virtual reality that takes your DNA and uses biological information to reconstruct scenes from the past that an ancestor may have lived through.

While the Animus is a sour point for some fans, CMON’s emphasis is why Ubisoft greenlit it. The game will constantly throw characters into the action and will use the Animus as a vehicle to play only the most exciting parts of a TTRPG and skip over all the boring parts. It also won’t limit you to the existing worlds of the game. It will mine the backlog of long-forgotten games within the franchise, like Assassins Creed: Memories a now-defunct trading card game for iOS that came out in 2015. The final product will contain all new characters, and players can even create their own assassins.

Character advancement will also be a big part of the game, but it’s only the modern-day characters who will level up, not their historical counterpart. The game however uses custom dice, which might be a dealbreaker for some. There is a free mobile app, that is available now, that will roll all the dice for you, making it a bit easier.

Preorders for the game are currently up and range from $35-130, depending on what bundle you decide on. There is also a nearly two-and-a-half-hour play video available to watch as well before the game comes out. The final product is expected by October 2024, with the digital version of the core rulebook available before then.
