A Scott Pilgrim anime series has been ordered by Netflix, with the creator of the graphic novel series Bryan Lee O’Malley teaming up with BenDavid Grabinski to be co-showrunners for the anime. “We’re getting the band back together!” they announce. And that is absolutely true.

The series is bringing back the entire main cast of the 2010 live-action film Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, with Michael Cera reprising his role as Scott Pilgrim, the slacker from Toronto who falls in love with Ramona Flowers. Mary Elizabeth Winstead will reprise her role as Ramona Flowers, who tasks Scott with defeating her seven evil exes before she will date him.

Five of Ramona’s seven exes have their original actors returning, with Satya Bhabha (Matthew Patel), Chris Evans (Lucas Lee), Brandon Routh (Todd Ingram), Mae Whitman (Roxy Richter), and Jason Schwartzman (Gideon Graves) all lending their voices to the anime series. Other cast announcements will be made at a later date, with the first likely to be the last two exes, Kyle and Ken Katayanagi.

“A stellar cast,” O’Malley and Grabinski say in their statement, “perfectly assembled by Edgar Wright. And with Science SARU leading the phenomenal animation, we couldn’t ask for a better team for this adventure.”

Edgar Wright also presented a statement for the announcement, saying, “One of the proudest and most enjoyable achievements of my career was assembling and working with the dynamite cast of Scott Pilgrim.” He also says that he is “more than happy to announce that I have helped coax the entire original cast back to voice their characters on this epic new adventure.”

Edgar also teased that the anime series isn’t just a retelling, but expands the universe of Scott Pilgrim and more. Edgar, O’Malley, and Grabinski all say that this is a series worth waiting for. Time will tell if that statement delivers.
