Netflix animated series Blue Eye Samurai has been renewed for a second season. Having quietly added the series to the service on November 3, it has quickly become one of their best shows of the year. It seemed inevitable that such a success would be rewarded with a renewal.

Co-creators of Blue Eye Samurai Amber Noizumi and Michael Green shared thoughts on the statement of the series renewal. “When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists, and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations.”

The two continued, “We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue.”

Blue Eye Samurai follows a half-white half-Japanese swordsmaster named Mizu. In 17th-century Japan, the borders were closed by the Tokugawa shogunate, with Mizu hunting down those who illegally remained within those borders. The first season is available to watch on Netflix.
