MultiVersus Coming Back This May After Almost A Year
Nearly a year ago, on March 2023, Player First Games announced they were removing the popular fighting game Multiversus from digital stores and shelves. The game launched in July of 2022 and saw decent success, seen as a counter to the popular Super Smash Bros. games on Nintendo systems. Multiversus featured well-known Warner Bros.-owned characters like Bugs Bunny, Superman, and even the Iron Giant. Since June of last year, players have only had limited access.
It seems now that the reason was to rebuild the game from the ground up and make it better than before. According to Tony Huynh, co-founder and CEO of Player First Games, that rebuilding was to bring the game back in Unreal Engine 5. This was to make the game look better, improve the game's hit mechanics, as well as improve its performance across platforms.
Huynh also talked about the team working on new levels and characters to reintroduce the launch, what he described as “exciting, brand-new personalities.” As to who those are, there is no indication. Warner Bros. is a massive company within Hollywood and they have rights to an incredibly deep list of characters. It would make sense for characters like Lola Bunny, King Kong, or even Daffy and Porky, given the current roster of fighters. Some leaks came out back when the game first launched suggesting Lord of the Rings characters, but that never seemed to pan out and then the game was taken down.
This re-launch of Multiversus comes May 28 to all platforms except the Nintendo Switch.
