MTV News, which is considered by many to be the main source of geek and nerd news for the kids of Generation  X, has shut down after 36 years of operation. This is part of a larger trend at Paramount Studios to cut costs and streamline operations to save money during tumultuous times in the entertainment industry.

Dozens of firings, cutting of streaming content, and other programs have been going on for a few months now and sadly MTV News is the latest casualty of these austerity policies by the studios. Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks President Chris McCarthy said in a memo, "Through the elimination of some units and by streamlining others, we will be able to reduce costs and create a more effective approach to our business as we move forward." Again this has been happening to several studios across the industry as the markets continue to be quite volatile during this time.

It is uncertain as of now what else from Paramount will be shut down or reduced as the cuts continue. Again this is very much the end of an era for many older nerds and geeks of their generation, who are sad to see the old station go.
