Ms. Marvel Costume Leaked!

Ms. Marvel is on her way to the MCU in the form of her own series on Disney+, and the newest bit of leaked promotional material reveals our best look at the heroine’s costume yet. Here is the back story on the Ms. Marvel character: Kamala Khan is Marvel’s first leading Muslim superhero and is one of the most standout additions in the Marvel Comics universe over the past decade, so it’s no surprise that she’s one of the first characters to get her own Disney+ series.

The newest look teased some major changes for her live-action debut. This promo art showcases actress Iman Vellani in full costume as the title character Ms. Marvel. It’s a close match to her comic book look, with the exception of full-length sleeves and red converse sneakers instead of purple boots. Kamala isn’t wearing her family bracelet, though it is possible that it is being obscured by the crystalized purple light enveloping her left hand.

In the comics, Kamala has elastic/size-shifting abilities, and this promo art appears to confirm a rumor about the MCU version: she will be given a new power with the ability to generate purple light constructs, much like Green Lantern from DC Comics. It is not clear whether Kamala Khan will have her comic-accurate powers or whether they will just be replaced.

There might be a solid reason why Marvel may have decided to do some altering with her powers. They are setting up to introduce the most famous superhero to have stretchy skin, Reed Richards, aka Mr. Fantastic, in the incoming Fantastic Four reboot. So giving Kamala a different superpower may help her stand out a little bit. It brings her closer to the power level of Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau in the upcoming Captain Marvel sequel The Marvels, in which Vellani will co-star alongside Brie Larson and Teyonah Parris in the near future.

Ms. Marvel is reportedly scheduled to release on Disney+ in late 2021 or early 2022.
