Ming-Na Wen Speaks Out On Fan Response To Fennec Shand In 'Star Wars Book of Boba Fett'
The Disney+ series, The Book of Boba Fett is approaching the end of its first season. The fanbase has had time to take it all in and decide what they like and don’t like. It is interesting to see how actors and actresses feel about their roles and characters. Good Morning America’s GM3: What You Need to Know thought they would interview Ming-Na Wen about the series The Book of Boba Fett. Ming Na-Wen was quoted as saying:
“It’s been wonderful because the fans are loving the show, we’re getting such positive feedback, and that just warms my heart because this show is so, so special to me. They love Fennec, which is an added bonus. Everybody knows that Boba Fett was the legendary character, and it’s nice to be able to come through with a new character.”

Fennec Shand played a role in the episode, The Gunslinger, in Season 1 of The Mandalorian albeit a small role. She even "died" in the scene. At the end of the episode a figure shows up and approaches where she is lying, seemingly dead. It was speculated that the figure was Boba Fett. Later in Season 2, Boba Fett and Fennec Shand reappear to help Din Djarin get Grogu to his people, the Jedi. Ming Na-Wen has commented;
“I’m a massive 'Star Wars' fan. To be a part of 'Star Wars' and then to be part of Boba Fett’s incredible legacy… there are just no words.”
Ming Na-Wen has also voiced her character in the Disney+ series, The Bad Batch. She has become a familiar face on Disney+ and within the Star Wars saga. Fennec Shand (Ming Na-Wen) plays the role of Boba Fett’s partner in crime very well.
Ming Na-Wen commented further on her character, Fennec Shand:
“The determining factor [in Shand’s survival] might have been several things. One, I looked really cool in the outfit. I really felt like, because I knew this world so much, that when this character was presented to me and I did a lot of research, I took inspiration from her name, you know, worked in the hair design with Maria [Sandoval, hair designer], and then just clicked with Dave when he was directing, and we got to know each other.”
It appears that Ming Na-Wen really became Fennec Shand for these Disney+ series. Her being a super-fan of Star Wars for life really helped in her role as the Tatooine underworld crime lord’s partner. She has really made the series much more interesting and exciting. In Ming Na-Wen’s interviews about her new series, The Book of Boba Fett, she always avoids spoilers. She has had many interviews since the series aired on December 29, 2021. She made comments about how she hopes the fanbase will want to go back and see the whole series over again, to see how everything has evolved.
The series has been interesting and informative, especially on filling some of the gaps in Boba Fett’s timeline. It will be interesting to see where the last two episodes take the fanbase. Many questions have come up based on the first five episodes and how will Boba Fett and Fennec Shand fit in with Din Djarin in The Mandalorian. Will there be a Season 2 for The Book of Boba Fett? Will there be more of The Mandalorian after Season 3? No spoilers from Ming Na-Wen about any of this. She has enjoyed her time with The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Bad Batch. She, along with the Star Wars fanbase, is hoping for more.
