Michael Keaton Speaks Out About 'Batgirl' And When We Might See Him As Batman
During the SAG Awards, Michael Keaton was asked about both the axing of Batgirl and when he’ll be making his reappearance as Batman owing to that cancellation
Warner Bros. Discovery had axed Batgirl last month, with many questions as to why. The film had been in post-production, with a budget of over $80 million having already gone into it. Keaton’s thoughts as to the why indicate that “it was a business decision.” When next asked about when he’d be appearing as Batman in a film, he teased, “a little later tonight,” before stating “I really have no idea.”
The DCEU film The Flash was set to star Keaton’s Batman during this year before being delayed into 2023. That film wasn’t the only one seeing a delay, with Warner Bros. Discovery making changes across all its planned theatrical releases. Batgirl had originally been intended for streaming service HBO Max, but the additional costs to bring it to a theatrical release were too high for WBD to accept continuing with the project.
With Batgirl axed to allow Warner Bros. Discovery to recoup some of its losses with the project, fans will now be waiting for The Flash to hit cinemas on 23 June 2023 to see Michael Keaton’s return as the caped crusader.
