Star Wars: The High Republic multimedia project is currently weaving a canonical story of the Jedi in their prime time. The Republic, and the Jedi were in their golden age. This was before the Republic era, and before the Clone Wars. In the High Republic comic series, we have been following several adventures with a whole new cast of characters of the Jedi Order with each taking us to several new planets, and introducing new adventures. However, from all these stories, fans have one question. Where are the Sith?

Fans have been wondering where the main villains of the franchise are. None of the comic book issues released so far had shown any signs of the Sith. They were not in Marvel's The High Republic series, IDW's Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures, nor any High Republic novels. There had been no sign of the crimson lightsabers. That was until The High Republic #7 was teased recently. In the teaser, a mysterious alien was holding the telltale red lightsaber, and attacking our main character. This figure could be the very first official Sith from the High Republic era.

In the Old Republic era, whose stories were now considered Legends, we knew that the Sith had been around, plotting far from the eyes of the Jedi. They built an vast empire in the Unknown Regions, a great distance away from the Core Worlds. Some of the legendary Sith lords were even revered as gods. While Sith lords of old like Darth Revan and Darth Bane had recently been brought into canon, this mysterious Dark Side user that is about to appear in The High Republic #7 might give us the very first look at the ancient Sith in the setting of the new Star Wars canon.

This teaser for The High Republic #7 gave fans hope that there may be more stories about the mysterious Sith from the time period. The upcoming series The Acolyte, which is shrouded in mystery itself, will feature a dark story following a Sith acolyte during the last days of the High Republic. In the current canon, it is interesting to see that the Sith were almost extinct during this time period of the galactic history, when they flourished in the Old Republic of Legends. They numbered in the thousands with their own empire covered vast territories.

With the canon High Republic, it would be interesting to see what direction Lucasfilm would take with the Sith. The Sith of the High Republic era thus far was a complete mystery, almost a myth. Perhaps, like in Legends, the Sith were merely working in the shadows, slowly building up their resources, plotting, and preparing for when they were ready to move against the Jedi and the Republic. It remained to be seen if any Sith powers, abilities, traditions, and ways of living as described in Legends would cross into canon in High Republic.
