'Max Payne' And 'Alan Wake 2' Actor James McCaffrey Has Passed Away At The Age Of 65

James McCaffrey best known as the voice of Max Payne, passed away on Sunday 17th December after a long battle with cancer. The actor was just sixty-five years old.

McCaffrey was in the industry for more than thirty years. He starred in the hit FX firefighting drama Rescue Me and Viper but has had minor roles in some of the biggest series on television (Sex In the City, Law and Order, Suits, and Jessica Jones). James McCaffrey was no stranger to a film set and worked on many movies including The Truth About Cats and Dogs, and Spike Lee's flick, She Hates Me.

In 2001, he was signed by Rockstar Games for the Max Payne franchise. McCaffrey voiced the iconic vigilante in all his games. James McCaffrey became in demand in the video game industry, in 2008 he worked on the groundbreaking horror videogame Alone in The Dark. According to the Guinness Book of Records, this was the first ever 3D Survival Horror Game. Later that year, he became the voice of another flagship game for Remedy Entertainment. He made four Alan Wake games providing vocals for Thomas Zane and Alex Casey. Remedy liked McCaffrey’s work so much that they also used him in four Control games, as Zachariah Trench.

McCaffrey is survived by his wife, actor Rochelle Boström, and daughter Tiernan McCaffrey, and will be sadly missed.
