Marvel Surprises Fans With First Trailer For 'Werewolf By Night' At D23 Expo
Today at the D23 Expo, Marvel Studios dropped a surprise trailer for ‘Werewolf by Night.’ In a spooky mansion that looks straight out of a horror movie, the trailer shows a monster in a cage surrounded by soldiers. A group of hunters is being questioned by Verrusa, who claims that “one of you is a monster, masquerading as one of our own”
Starring Gael García Bernal will star as the titular character in wolf form and Jack Russell in human form. Rounding out the cast will be Laura Donnelly as Elsa Bloodstone and Harriet Sansom Harris as Verrusa.
Initially published in 1953 by Atlas comics as a 5-page short story in Marvel Tales, Werewolf by Night didn’t actually show up in comic form for nearly 20 years because of the Comics Code Authority. Once the rules became slightly more relaxed, the Jack Russell version of Werewolf by Night appeared in Marvel Spotlight #2 in February 1972.
Jack Russell has appeared in numerous series, including Spider-Woman, Giant-Size Creatures (with Tigra), Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme, and Morbius. 1975’s Issue #32 of Werewolf by Night contains the first appearance of Moon Knight.
A cheeky little easter egg that some may notice is the opening sequence that is themed after the ABC Movie Introductions.
Werewolf by Night will stream on October 7th exclusively on Disney+
