So it turns out that when Matt Shakman was hired as director of the upcoming Fantastic Four film, the film already had its writers in place. Now we know who they are.

Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer have been on board for a while before Shakman’s hiring. They’ve been working with Marvel Cinematic Universe architect and studio president Kevin Feige, figuring out how to fit this film and any future ones in the series in the broader universe. While they have no released credits, as Hollywood newcomers, they have sold several spec scripts. Among them is the Warner Bros. comedy Disaster Wedding, which is being produced by MCU Spider-Man director Jon Watts. And for all that speculation regarding casting, it seemingly hadn’t started. It’s not all that clear. But now with the director picked and the script in progress focus on finding actors while the script is being written.

The latest reboot for the first family of comics has been long anticipated, with previous attempts in released capacity dating back to before Iron Man, with two Tim Story-directed films in 2005 and 2007 and a 2015 reboot that served as an obvious game of keep away by then-rights holders 20th Century Fox. The new film is scheduled to be released on November 8, 2024, and leads off Phase Six of the MCU.
