Martin Freeman Claims 'Black Panther 2' Plot Is "Odd" At Points

Following the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, fans of the actor were left completely distraught due to how sudden it was, and the fact he kept his illness a secret for so long. It also left a gaping hole in the world of Marvel, as he had not long taken up the mantle of the superhero Black Panther.

After the success of Black Panther, a sequel was inevitable. However, following the actor's death, it seemed incredibly difficult for Marvel Studios to move forward, and plot of the sequel was stuck in limbo.

However, last week, Marvel Studios released a video confirming all the upcoming films set to be released over the coming years, and fans were pleasantly surprised to see a title for the sequel moving ahead: Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. It sounds like the film could focus on the fictional nation of Wakanda instead of focusing on one character. It's also been hinted that the sequel will honor the late actor who helped bring Black Panther to the big screen.

As with all of Marvel Studio's upcoming releases, plot details are pretty scarce, but Everett Ross actor Martin Freeman has confirmed that elements of the plot are "odd" during an interview on The Late Late Show With James Corden, as well as confirming that "people are in for a treat".

The actor stated that he had a Zoom call with director Ryan Coogler, who "meticulously took [him] through all of [his] characters beats." He described his reaction to the information as "very odd" and that Coogler just kept telling him "stay with me, but this is going to work".

Freeman said:

"I had a Zoom call with Ryan Coolger, the director and co-writer about seven or eight weeks ago, I suppose...He sort of meticulously took me through all of my character's beats...He took me through the film, but incorporating my character's beats. And some of it was really...very odd. And I think [Coogler] could see from the reaction on my face to some of the things he was saying, my face must have been going [shocked face] like that, because he kept sort of stopping, and he kept going...'Stay with me here, this is going to work'. People are in for, I think, a real treat - I mean we've not done it yet, who knows, we might make it awful. But, I'm hoping we won't, I'm hoping people are going to be in for a treat."

The actor also went on to say:

"Obviously, the hope is we do the first film justice and we do Chadwick's legacy on it justice and make, hopefully, another good film."

Despite him suggesting that there are still finer points to be worked out, it seems that he and the rest of the production team are trying their best to ensure that they don't tarnish the amazing legacy left by the late Chadwick Boseman.

The first Black Panther film was met with critical acclaim, but without its leading man at the forefront, it remains to be seen if the sequel will be able to live up to the original. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is set for release in the summer of 2022. Stay tuned for more updates as and when they happen.

Until next time!
