Mark Hamill Tweets Praise For New Young Luke Skywalker
The first trailer for the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series has dropped and the internet is awash with excitement for this new round of Star Wars storytelling. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series sees Ewan McGregor returning as the titular hero alongside Hayden Christiansen, who will be reprising his role as Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader.
Set after the events of Revenge Of The Sith, the Obi-Wan Kenobi series continues the story of his adventures. The main story arc would appear to be based around Obi-Wan Kenobi being pursued by, and trying to hide from, the Galactic Empire’s Inquisitors. As expected, we are also going to see how Obi-Wan Kenobi spent some of his time on Tatooine.

One of the biggest surprises of the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer was seeing him looking through a pair of macrobinoculars to reveal a young Luke Skywalker playing at what we can only assume was podracing. This was a massive call back to The Phantom Menace and Luke's young father, Anakin Skywalker. Seeing the young Luke has caused a lot of excitement with fans, although at this stage it is unclear how much he will be included in the story.
Mark Hamill, whose name is synonymous with the character Luke Skywalker, has always embraced social media and gives shout-outs to Star Wars projects and actors on a regular basis. The release of the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer proved to be no exception with Mark Hamill taking to Twitter to welcome and support the newest actor to take on the role of Luke Skywalker, Grant Feely.
The Star Wars legend wrote that Feely "looks like a perfect Luke Skywalker and I am wishing him all the very best!” This was followed by the custom hashtag: “#TheForceIsWithFeely." Grant Feely no doubt already feels completely on top of the world having been cast into a Star Wars series, no matter how big or small that role turns out to be. Add to that this wonderful message from Mark Hamill, from one Luke Skywalker to another, and Grant Feely now has a massive endorsement for his role.
Casting a younger version of a character is no easy task and the Star Wars fanbase doesn't always have the best track record when it comes to being encouraging and supportive of actors that are brought into the Star Wars universe. Hopefully with Mark Hamill’s Twitter post giving his seal of approval, people will remember that Grant Feely is still just a child. As a result of being cast as a young Luke Skywalker he will be receiving and having to deal with levels of attention and scrutiny that he would not have encountered before. With any luck, he will be allowed to just enjoy his moment and the positive reaction from Mark Hamill and fans.
Mark Hamill once again showed what a class act he is in taking time to spotlight and encourage Grant Feely, following the release of the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer. This is praise indeed for Grant Feely and will be an event and memory in his life that he will not be forgetting any time soon. The Obi-Wan Kenobi limited series will be streaming exclusively on Disney+ from 25th May. Whilst fans had been hoping for a May the 4th release, this date was chosen as it marks the 45th anniversary of the release of the original Star Wars movie, A New Hope.
