Disney has announced plans to re-release Rogue One in a select number of IMAX theatres in anticipation and promotion for the upcoming Disney+ series Andor. For those who have been living under a galaxy-sized rock since 2016, Rogue One was one of the first Star Wars projects released under the Disney banner. The film takes place a week before the events of A New Hope and revolves around former criminal Jyn Erso and a band of Rebels as they sought to steal plans for the newly-constructed Death Star.

While not often lumped together with the rest of the Skywalker saga, Rogue One was a massive critical and commercial success. The film raked in over $1 billion and two Oscar nominations (Best Sound Mixing and Best Visual Effects) and jumpstarted the Star Wars anthology films and series, which have since culminated in works like Solo: A Star Wars Story, The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, along with some upcoming projects like Ahsoka and, of course, Andor.

Set five years before the events of Rogue One and A New Hope, the Andor series will chronicle the transformation of Cassian Andor from nihilistic thief to unsung hero as he works to help kick-start the rise of the Rebel Alliance. Diego Luna will reprise his role as the titular character from Rogue One and will be joined by returning Star Wars alums such as Forrest Whitaker (Saw Gerrera) and Genevieve O’Reilly (Mon Mothma). The cast will also welcome acting heavy-weight Stellan Skarsgård as Luthen Rael, an ally of Andor’s.

The Rogue One re-release is slated for August 26th with an ‘exclusive’ look at Andor, which will air on Disney+ on September 21st.
