'Lord Vader: A Star Wars Story' Fan Trailer Will Turn You To The Dark Side

I think it's safe to say no one, not even George Lucas himself, could have possibly imagined just how big Star Wars would turn out to be. The franchise already has a lifespan of more than four decades, yet shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon, much to the delight of the absolutely huge fanbase. Since the release of the original trilogy, more and more new content has been released, focusing on characters old and new.

One character who has remained at the height of popularity since appearing in the very first film, though, is the Dark Lord of the Sith himself - Darth Vader. Despite the prequel trilogy focusing on him pre-dark side and giving a pretty in-depth backstory, fans still want more.

When it was announced that new films would be released existing within the Skywalker Saga, but not directly linked to the series, fans from all over the world expressed a lot of interest in a standalone Vader film. The hype for this reached its peak when Solo: A Star Wars Story, a film focusing on the earlier days of Han Solo, was announced. Sadly, the film did not perform as well as hoped, so the idea of standalone films have, for the time being anyway, been put on the backburner. Having said that, this didn't stop one fan from creating a very, very intriguing trailer for a Vader standalone film.

What's interesting about the hype for a Vader film, is the fact we know so much about the character already. We've see him grow up, we've seen his fall from grace and his redemption, so what else is there possibly still left to explore? The answer is - tons.

Vader has gone on to become somewhat of a mascot for the Star Wars franchise, purely based on the character's design. To many, he is absolutely terrifying, and his history shows that he is a very powerful force (pardon the pun) of nature, especially when he is angry. Think the Star Wars version of the Hulk. This was highlighted in great detail during Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, in which Vader obliterates a a whole team of Rebels with minimal effort. While it made complete sense to include him in this film, based on the setting, there still exists a plethora of stories which could be adapted to the big screen.

There is a gap of 19 years between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, when Vader's in his absolute prime. The Legends book Dark Lord: The Rise of Darth Vader by James Luceno focuses on him immediately after the events of Episode III, covering him getting used to now being bound to his famous suit. And the current Marvel comic series Star Wars: Darth Vader deals with stories set during the original trilogy, so there is plenty of source material to work from.

A standalone film could easily focus on anything within that 19 year gap. Who wouldn't go watch a film involving Vader hunting for Order 66 survivors or taking out teams of Rebels? With it now being confirmed that Vader will appear in the upcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi series with Hayden Christensen reprising the role, it seems Vader will continue to be part of the new content for a while to come. But some of us want a film.

The fan trailer, which comes from TeaserPro, merges existing footage from the Skywalker Saga as well as scenes from other fanmade videos, and is actually pretty awesome. After watching it myself, I'm not ashamed to admit it gave me goosebumps and makes me want to contact Disney to get this made.

For those who think I'm exaggerating, check out the trailer below for yourself and tell me you don't want it either:

Until next time!
