Liam Neeson Firmly Believes That The 'Star Wars' Legacy Is Being Tainted By The Volume Of Spin-Off Content
The Star Wars franchise has become renowned for its various movies and TV series. Various stories have been and will continue to be told over many mediums, expanding the lore and opening eyes to the intricacies of the universe. Not everyone agrees with the direction things have taken, though. In an episode of Watch What Happens Live! (via Variety), Actor Liam Neeson has commented again on the matter.
The actor, who played Qui-Gon Jinn, has expressed these feelings in the past. He is maintaining his stance on the interest in returning to the franchise with a firm no. Neeson said that “There’s so many spinoffs of ‘Star Wars.’ It’s diluting it to me, and it’s taken away the mystery and the magic in a weird way.”

It should be pointed out that branching from the quote-unquote main storyline is not the newest thing in the world. This content has been produced both pre and post-Prequel Trilogy, including stories centered on Ewoks and comics centered on droids; of course, the droids are related to the main storyline though. There is also plenty of Skywalker-central content thoroughly expanding the universe, particularly from the comics. Getting into what is “official canon” and what isn’t complicates the matter though.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinions regarding the expansion of the Star Wars universe and what stories are being told; opinions also can change over time. Neeson has said in the past that he would reprise the role of Qui-Gon Jinn for a film, and he made a brief cameo in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. Time will tell where the future is headed.
