Legacy Darksaber Is Now Available At Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge
Legacy lightsabers are only available for purchase at Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities inside Galaxy’s Edge at either Disneyland and Disney’s Hollywood Studios. They are not officially sold anywhere else online. The Star Wars Trading Post inside Downtown Disney does have a selection of legacy lightsabers for sale, but we have not seen sightings of the Darksaber there as of yet. You also cannot make the Darksaber at Savi’s workshop for those looking to make it a part of their lightsaber making experience at Galaxy’s Edge.
How do these Legacy lightsabers compare to Force FX lightsabers or other lightsabers you can buy at local retailers? The hilt of the Legacy lightsabers more closely resemble the official prop used in the films. The lightsaber blade is also interchangeable so you can have multiple Legacy lightsaber hilts for display and only buy one blade that fits all of them. However, we do not think the Darksaber’s unique flat blade design is interchangeable with other Legacy lightsaber hilts. The Legacy lightsabers tend to be lighter than the Force FX lightsabers, but they do look better when displayed. While some fans may prefer the heavier feel of the Force FX lightsaber in their hand, we do discourage using either Legacy or Force FX lightsabers for very rigorous dueling practice.
In other news, Hasbro is also releasing the Darksaber in its latest line of Force FX Elite series of lightsabers. The Force FX Elite Darksaber is only available for pre-order right now, so we do not have a side by side comparison with the Legacy Darksaber at this time. It retails at $249.99, which is more than the Legacy Darksaber. On the other hand, it may be more economical when you add travel and admission ticket cost to either Disneyland or Disney World.
According to lore, the Darksaber was created during the Old Republic Era by Tarre Vizsla, the first Mandalorian to become a Jedi. It was then kept in the Jedi Temple after his death. During the fall of the Old Republic, almost a millennium before the Battle of Yavin, members of House Vizsla stole the blade from the Jedi Temple. The Darksaber was passed down generation to generation. During the Clone Wars, Pre Vizsla wielded the Darksaber in his quest to unify the Mandalorians and return Mandalore to its previous militaristic nature. Darth Maul would defeat Vizsla and claim the Darksaber for himself. Other Mandalorians like Bo-Katan Kryze refused to follow him, however, despite his winning it fairly in combat. The blade remained in Darth Maul’s possession until the events of Star Wars Rebels when Ezra Bridger, Kanan Jarrus, and Sabine Wren encountered him on Dathomir. Sabine Wren would come to wield the blade and pass it on to Bo-Katan Kryze so that Kryze may lead the Mandalorian resistance against the Empire. When the Empire launched the “Great Purge” against the Mandalorians, the blade was lost. The Darksaber would resurface after the Galactic Civil War in the hand of Moff Gideon in The Mandalorian. As of right now, Din Djarin is technically the rightful owner of the blade after he won it from Gideon.
While we have to wait for Season 3 of The Mandalorian to find out the future of the Darksaber, you can have a replica of it in your possession. Your Mandalorian armor might still be under construction, but you can pretend to rule Mandalore with the Legacy Darksaber in your hand.
