Later This Year Fans Of 'Lupin The Third' Will Be Treated To A Prequel Series 'LUPIN Zero'
On the heels of Lupin the Third: Part 6's finale airing on Toonami, TMS Entertainment has announced a new series in the long-running franchise. This time, it is a prequel to the events of Lupin the Third Part 1 entitled LUPIN Zero. A teaser trailer was released on the show’s official Twitter account.
LUPIN Zero is set in 1960s Japan and is partially inspired by Monkey Punch's original Young Lupin III stories. It will follow a young, mischievous Arsène Lupin III (grandson of the gentleman thief Arsène Lupin) and his various misadventures. The show is animated by Telecom Animation in a stylized manner similar to the original Lupin III: Part 1. LUPIN Zero consists of Daisuke Sakou as director (known for Lupin the Third Part 5 and Yokai Watch), Ichirou Okouchi as series supervisor (Lupin the Third Part 5 and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress), Seiichi Shirato as the settings researcher (LUPIN THE 3rd PART 5, Chain Chronicle: The Light of Haecceitas), and Yoshide Otomo composing the music (Ama Chan, INU-OH). On the western side of things, HIDIVE (an anime streaming service owned by Sentai Filmworks) has announced that they have acquired the exclusive rights to this new spin-off.
The series is set to premiere in December of this year and it will have six episodes. However, those attending Anime NYC will be treated to a screening of the anime at the LUPIN Zero panel in addition to a cast reveal.
