Ron Perlman Talks 'Star Wars' And What Kind Of Character He Would Like To Play
One of the most recognizable actors working in Hollywood today is Ron Perlman, best known for his role as the titular character in Guillermo del Toro's Hellboy films. He has a distinct look and voice that make him nearly impossible to mistake for, say, Tom Cruise. On top of the del Toro films he's been in, such as the aforementioned Hellboy, Blade II, Cronos, Pacific Rim, and Nightmare Alley, he has a prolific career in voice work with projects such as Tangled, Halo 2 and 3, Teen Titans, and Adventure Time. He has done a lot in his thirty-year career.
However, there's one series he admitted that he'd love to be in. In an interview with ComicBook.com largely about the latest del Toro film Nightmare Alley, Perlman discussed what he'd like to do if he jumped onto the Star Wars ship that is encasing all of Hollywood. He joked that he would like to be the kind of character who gets all of the ladies.

When asked "have [you] ever thought about what kind of character in a Star Wars movie you would want to play, if you'd want to be a big hulking guy in makeup or if you'd be like an older, wise Jedi or a quirky bartender?" Perlman responded:
"I'm pretty much hoping that I never have to put on a whole lot of makeup again. When they put the concealer on to hide the tequila that I've had the night before for 20 seconds, that's become too much for me these days. So, done with the makeup thing, bro. I just want to be the guy who gets all the women."
It's no surprise that Perlman wouldn't want to be in the makeup chair any more than absolutely necessary these days, given that he was in two Hellboy films. Every day of filming started with him sitting in the makeup chair for four hours, and that was before he was even on set actually acting. That had to be incredibly draining.
While the interviewer joked that a character like that lines up more with a character such as Jabba the Hutt, which would require a ton of makeup, when it comes to the seventy-one-year-old Perlman, a character that comes to mind is a grizzled war veteran/bounty hunter/former Jedi Master who has seen way too much in his life (likely fighting the Empire), and just wants to spend the rest of his life relaxing and trying to woo a local lady (who would be a bartender who pretends to be more gruff than she really is, and acts like she's constantly annoyed by him) but gets drawn in to the latest adventure for one last go. Maybe this would work for a show with a female protagonist, and as the series goes on, he sheds some of that gruff exterior and becomes a sort of father figure to her. Then we will cue a final heroic sacrifice to save her life/the galaxy just as he tells the gruff bartender that he loves her (optional, but highly recommended).
Now, obviously that is a random idea and highly cliche one at that. Perlman is a versatile actor, and he would do a good job with any kind of role he would be given. The odds that he will be in some kind of Star Wars media in the future are incredibly high, since Disney isn't slowing down with new shows. His showing vague interest in being in a project might be all he needs to have Disney reach out to ask what he would like to do. After all, he is talented enough to bring anything they'd offer him to life.
And if he did a good enough job, maybe he would get three seasons of his own spin-off show!
