With Antman and The Wasp Quantumania releasing so soon, and tickets already for sale, Marvel seems to still be a large draw when it comes to the big screen. In contrast, company president Kevin Feige has recently spoken about what to expect on the small screen, and it appears to be the opposite of what Marvel has been doing

“We want to do shows that can only be shows. I want to continue to make them even more episodic, which may seem counterintuitive. But I do think there is something fun about leaning back and watching an episode that can be relatively self-contained,” He said when asked about adjusting for TV. He continued by saying, “Lost was an incredibly influential show because it was this serialized story, which was not seen in television much. Now it’s been how long, 20 years? Since then, almost everything has become like that. So now — and I think you’re seeing this not just with our shows, but with many other shows — you’re starting to see the fun of a self-contained, episodic story week to week. We’re going to experiment with that in some of our upcoming things.”

This seems a lot less like plot and character-driven shows like Wandavision and Loki, and more like the more recent She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which featured a few episodes that had little to no effect on the main plot.

“You certainly want to keep people engaged. But I’m a big Star Trek fan, and I still find it soothing to watch an episode of Next Gen with a beginning and an end. So, I think we’re going to keep experimenting with that going forward,” Feige said.

Upcoming Marvel TV series in 2023 include Secret Invasion, Echo, Loki Season 2, Ironheart, and Agatha: Coven of Chaos.
