'Kenobi' Stars Get Emotional On Set Of 'Star Wars' Series
Everyone who is a Star Wars fan is excited about the upcoming streaming series Obi-Wan Kenobi, which will premiere on Disney+ in 2022. Seeing the duo of Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen again onscreen will be exciting, with Kathleen Kennedy even recently saying that the two actors were emotional in their on-set reunion.
Kathleen Kennedy, head of Lucasfilm, said that the actors were somewhat emotional on the set of the new series, and who could blame them? The pair hadn’t acted together since Revenge of the Sith, and while Ewan’s career took off, Hayden wasn’t as lucky. He stayed busy, certainly, starring in some smaller budget films and starting his own production company, but Ewan had bigger roles and was more well-known in the non-Star Wars communities.

During a recent interview promoting the upcoming Book of Boba Fett series, Kennedy recounted being onset with McGregor and Christiansen. Saying, in part;
“The thing that was most exciting was being on the set and watching the two of them get excited. They hadn’t seen one another in a long time. I was surprised at just how incredibly emotional it was for each of them to find themselves back in these roles, and just realizing how important 'Star Wars' was to each of them. It was the beginning of their careers.”
It is refreshing to hear that the actors had a positive experience with Star Wars as the prequels were not exactly well received at their release. With the technological advancements of the Volume making an immersive set environment and the show under the watchful eye of Deborah Chow, expectations are high.
The actors first worked together on 2002’s Attack of the Clones, where McGregor reprised his role as Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and Christensen took on the role of Jedi Padawan – and prophesied Chosen One – Anakin Skywalker.
They were back on screen together in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, where they once again reprised their roles as Obi-Wan and Anakin. While it didn’t end so well for their characters - with Obi-Wan retreating to Tatooine with an infant Luke Skywalker, tasked to look after him until he comes of age, and Anakin taking on the life support suit of Darth Vader – the actors parted as friends.
I can only imagine how exciting it must have been for both of the old friends to receive the call that a Kenobi series had been greenlit by LFL. Christensen is again in the midst of the fanbase that adores him and made him famous, and having his old friend and on-screen Master right there with him must take him back to their prequels days.
I, along with other fans of Star Wars, wonder how much onscreen time the two will share together. Of course, when we last saw their characters in a movie together, it ended with Darth Vader dueling his old Master, and Obi-Wan sacrificing himself and melding into the Force. Will we see them together once again in flashbacks before Anakin took on the mantle of Darth Vader? Will we see flashbacks of Anakin after he had fallen to the Dark Side, still pretending to be the loyal Jedi as he worked alongside Obi-Wan?
There are so many possibilities, and I, for one, am excited to see these two together once more.
