Keanu Reeves Has Joined 'Sonic 3' As The Voice Of Shadow The Hedgehog
At long last, the voice actor for Shadow in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has been revealed. Several suggestions and rumors were brought up regarding who would be bringing “The Ultimate Lifeform” to life, with names such as Hayden Christensen, Robert Pattinson, and even his current voice from the games Kirk Thorton in addition to his former voice actors Jason Griffith, and David Humphrey. One name that was suggested early on due to him being referenced in the films, however, was Mr. Breathtaking himself, Keanu Reeves, and it turns out that Reeves will be voicing Shadow in the upcoming film. This reveal comes off the heels of CinemaCon and was first reported by John Campea on his podcast, The John Campea Show.
Shadow was first teased in the post-credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where he was found sealed in a pod for 50 years, similar to his introduction in the Dreamcast title Sonic Adventure 2. Though an official trailer has yet to be released to the public, it was shown off at CinemaCon, and it reportedly features a fat Dr. Robotnik/Eggman (played by Jim Carey) who is down on his luck until Agent Stone (Lee Majdoub) tells Robotnik that “They found him,” which is all the Eggster needed to get back to work. It then cuts to footage of Shadow fighting against Sonic (played by Ben Schwartz), Tails (played by Idris Elba), and Knuckles. Shadow doesn’t speak in this trailer, however. It is also teased that Robotnik may even team up with Sonic and co against this powerful new foe. The trailer didn’t touch too much on Shadow’s backstory reportedly, but Maria Robotnik has been confirmed for the film, where she will be played by Alyla Browne. Sonic the Hedgehog 3 speeds into theaters on December 20th.
