A highly anticipated update has come for Marvel Studio’s The Fantastic Four reboot: the Silver Surfer has been cast! According to Deadline, Julia Garner will be joining the team as Shalla-Bal/Silver Surfer. Garner has had a varied career over the years. Some of her previous roles include Susan in The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), Tinsley in Good Kids (2016), Hanna in The Royal Hotel (2023), and Ruth Langmore in Ozark (2017-2022).

In the Earth-616 timeline, the primary continuity of Marvel Comics, Shalla-Bal was a major love interest for Norrin Radd, being in a relationship with the man before he became the Silver Surfer. She eventually became the Keeper of the Great Truth for her people and regularly attempted to mold other planets into the shape of her own culture. This isn’t the only continuity for the character; in Earth-9997, she briefly becomes the Silver Surfer following the meddling and power use of Franklin Richards. Not long after this development, she was killed in a battle. Radd also eventually dies, reuniting with Shalla-Bal; their fate in the afterlife was not specified.
