The first volume of Willow was an absolute rollercoaster that introduces the audience to a more relaxed fantasy adventure than that of HBO’s House of the Dragon and not as dark as Amazon’s Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power. Executive Producer Jon Kasdan answers a few questions about Elora Danan and the upcoming seasons of Willow. Willow follows the same trend as other Lucasfilm and Marvel’s Disney+ shows with an after-credit scene in the season finale. In the after-credit scene, it is revealed that Graydon is alive and confirmed okay by Jon Kasdan. The juicy bit is at the end of the after-credit scene, where the first volume of the Willow trilogy closes and is set to return to its shelf placed next to two more volumes of the beloved series.

Furthermore, Jon Kasdan got to delve deeper into the belief systems in Willow and how Willow was different from Star Wars. Jon wanted to avoid the debate and opinions connected with Star Wars.

Jon explains to Nist that Jon wanted fresh. He’d go on by saying, “One of the things that always intrigued me about getting my grubby hands on this property was that—because it wasn’t as fraught as Star Wars with debate, and opinions, and a strong sense from a lot of people of what they wanted and what they didn’t want—I thought one of the things that there was an opportunity to do here, and what I would consider to be an adjacent lore and belief system, was the idea that in our world we get to explore what the dark side sort of meant. And that it was a little more complicated than it is in Star Wars.”

Jon Kasdan recaptures much of the beloved nostalgia caught in the original 1988 film by making the Wyrm more nuanced with the struggles of Elora Danan and what it means going forward.

Jon goes on to say to Nerdist, “What I was interested in with Willow is the opportunity to complicate it and make it more nuanced. To write about what I think is a more fundamental conflict—certainly as you grow older—between your desires and your ideals. I wanted the Wyrm and the forces at play to represent those desires much more than evil. That was a lens through which we could look at our own world and a lot of things. But certainly, a struggle that I thought would be interesting, and would be fun for a character like Elora to explore, is the expectations thrust upon her versus what she wants and how she contends with those expectations.”

Thankfully future seasons of Willow are on the way. Hopefully in volume two the upcoming war that Willow mentions will unfold.
