It’s been a long wait, but John Cena and his superhero buddies are returning for Peacemaker Season 2. Cena plays the titular role of Peacemaker, also known as Christopher Smith. First introduced in The Suicide Squad, the character was fleshed out in the first season of Peacemaker. Show creator and director James Gunn shared a post on X, showing ten seconds of footage, in which Leota Adebayo, played by Danielle Brooks, tells Smith, “You’re a superhero now.” The streaming platform Max shared the same clip with the caption, “Let the circus begin.”
When the first season was airing, it was considered non-canon due to slight discrepancies. Gunn recently clarified that all of season one is canon. He explained, “The truth is almost all of Peacemaker is canon with the exception of Justice League. Which we will kind of deal with in the next season of Peacemaker.” Brooks shared her enthusiasm for the series and confirmed a new dance number with intense choreography. Speaking of the show, she said, “It will not disappoint. I will not disappoint. It has a lot of heart in it this season, I think, and it has a great opening. Peacemaker Season 2 will premiere on Max on August 21, 2025.
