John Boyega Has Changed His Mind About Appearing In A New 'Star Wars' Project
Actor John Boyega, who portrayed FN-2187 (aka Finn) in The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, and The Rise of Skywalker, may be making a return trip to the galaxy far, far away, years after making critical comments about how the popular franchise handled his character and his co-star, Kelly Marie Tran’s character, Rose, in the final two installments of the sequel trilogy. While Boyega had a prominent role in The Force Awakens as the First Order Stormtrooper-turned-Resistance fighter, Finn, Boyega expressed that he felt that he and Tran, were sidelined in the final two films in favor of Daisy Ridley’s character, Rey, and Adam Driver’s character, Kylo Ren (aka Ben Solo), who are both white-skinned.
Many fans feel that Tran’s role in the final movie, The Rise of Skywalker, was particularly curtailed, possibly in response to backlash due to some fans’ negative reactions to The Last Jedi. Additionally, Boyega had expressed dismay at the racial bigotry he and Tran endured from a segment of the Star Wars fandom. Because of these issues, Boyega seemed resistant to future participation in any further Star Wars adventures three years ago.

However, in recent months, Boyega seems to have mended his relationship with Lucasfilm over his past comments and he now feels like he is ready to return to the Star Wars franchise if he feels the conditions are right for him:
"That [those comments] was a few years ago, so they were the subject of that particular project. But I'm open to all characters and scripts that are enjoyable, have a great cast attached, and a terrific director. So yeah, I'm open to all opportunities."
Although Boyega has not commented on any specific projects or characters, the upcoming untitled Star Wars film announced this year at Celebration featuring the return of Daisy Ridley as Rey Skywalker may provide just the right opportunity for Boyega to return. By the conclusion of The Rise of Skywalker, Finn realized his sensitivity to the Force, along with some other former Stormtroopers who had also abandoned the First Order. His involvement in the upcoming Star Wars film may allow him to satisfy a lot of Star Wars fans’ wishes to see him finally be trained as a Jedi by Rey. Finn may also play a part in helping rescue any surviving Stormtroopers from their previous conditioning by the First Order. It is also conceivable that Boyega could appear as a wildly different character such as an alien under heavy makeup in another unrelated Star Wars project, but, of course, only time will tell what the future holds for Boyega’s involvement in Star Wars.
