James Gunn Has Stated That 'Superman: Legacy' Has Been On The Development Cards Prior To The Henry Cavill Cameo In 'Black Adam'
James Gunn took to Twitter to answer fans’ questions on upcoming DC Studios projects, Superman: Legacy leading the way. Per Gunn, Superman: Legacy was greenlit before he accepted the position to lead DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. He has been working to develop the script for the past six months. Eagle-eyed fans soon realized Gunn had been working on the script before the release of Black Adam, which will be, in fact, Henry Cavill’s last portrayal of the Kryptonian.
Gunn has emphasized Superman is a “huge priority” in DC Studios moving forward since taking the reigns with Peter Safran. And Gunn and Safran have been clear in explaining Cavill’s removal from the role was due to the new direction the studio was headed with the character and the upcoming film not being an origin story, Safran saying, “It focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing. Superman represents truth, justice, and the American way. He is kindness in a world that thinks of kindness as old fashioned.” The film is meant to focus on the early years of Superman after his move from Kansas to Metropolis.
