James Cameron Says 'Avatar: The Way Of Water' Was Successful, Fans Can Expect The Sequels

Thank Pandora’s bioluminescent forests! Avatar: The Way of Water has surpassed its break-even point. This news is incredibly good for the steadily growing Avatar movie series. James Cameron was worried that many might not care about the planet of Pandora meaning that Cameron would wrap his story up in four films rather than the originally planned number of five films. According to James Cameron, “It looks like, just with the momentum that the film has now, that we’ll easily pass our break-even in the next few days, actually, so it looks like I can’t wiggle out of this; I’m gonna have to do these other sequels. So I kind of know what I’m going to be doing the next six or seven years.”
Avatar: The Way of Water and Avatar: The Seed Bearer were filmed simultaneously so the same might be said for Avatar 4 and Avatar 5. With the Way of Water behind us, the Way of Fire is one film closer. The future Avatar films will continue to make their way through the four main elements much like the unrelated television series Avatar: The Last Air Bender. The Ash People will take a much more immoral route compared to the previously met Na’vi clans of the Omatikaya and the Metkayina.

The Ash People will focus more on the destructive nature of the Na’vi whereas the previous two films worked on villainizing the RDA. As the name implies the Ash people will worship fire and its destructive nature. With the RDA and Colonel Quaritch pushing to colonize Pandora for the human race it is also likely that the villain will be the Ash People.
James Cameron reaffirms fans by stating, “The fire will be represented by the ‘Ash People,’” Cameron said. “I want to show the Na’vi from another angle because, so far, I have only shown their good sides. In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples. In Avatar 3, we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best. The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal.”
With another time skip, Pandora’s resources could dwindle and the Na’vi could be forced into civil war. Another cool factor will be the many Pandoran creatures that can survive in and around the volcanoes that the Ash People will call home. Luckily, fans will not have to wait an additional ten years for Avatar: The Seed Bearer as the film is set to release in December 2024.
