At London's Star Wars Celebration, IGN's Alex Stedman had the opportunity to interview Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about the future of the space saga. Still feeling from the news that Dave Filoni will get a feature film, IGN asked Kennedy about the new project. She responded that Filoni was the right choice because several storylines from the live-action and animated series will be present in the film.

IGN mentioned Daisy Ridley's presence at the convention and sought details about her new film. Kennedy revealed the movie will take place 15 years after Rise of Skywalker. In a rare time of peace for the saga, with the war over and the First Order gone, much of the film will focus on the disarrayed Jedi and their role in this new world. Rey's adventure will involve attempting to rebuild the Jedi order based on the books and her experience with Luke Skywalker. Kennedy also talked about the franchise's movement from movies to television with the debut of Disney+. She mentioned how the long-form nature of television allows for more serialized storytelling, and the lower expectations for television gave the creators more freedom to experiment with new characters.

When IGN asked Kennedy about her hopes for the upcoming series Ahsoka, Acolyte, and Skeleton Crew, the Lucasfilm president responded that she hopes the variety of shows will give fans a stepping-on point to enjoy the rich history of the Star Wars saga. She further explained that with the franchise stretching back to the 80s, the hope for the new shows is that fans can enjoy them without having to go back and watch every previous movie and show. Kennedy also revealed that with recent shows like Ahsoka, Skeleton Crew, and The Mandalorian, they’ve been using a team of directors to ensure the stories are told through different voices.

The interview concluded with Kennedy talking about the franchise’s experimenting with different genres. The Mandalorian functions as a Western. Ahsoka is inspired by Kurosawa and Japanese films. Skeleton Crew will be a kid-focused adventure similar to Goonies while Andor is a spy thriller. IGN asked Kennedy a final question about her hope for the new era of Star Wars. She responded, “Quality is always everything. We want to tell resonating stories that really speak to what Star Wars is.” With all the news coming out of Celebration, Star Wars fans will have plenty of opportunity to spend time in a galaxy far, far away.
