Everything We Learned About 'Starfield' During The Xbox Games Extended Showcase Today
During the Xbox Extended Showcase, Pete Hines took a seat to talk about some of Bethesda's new titles. The most anticipated was Starfield, an open-world sci-fi exploration game that Hines described as "A massive sandbox." It was no surprise that Pete Hines saved Starfield for last; the first look at gameplay on Sunday left fans with several questions. And he took plenty of time in delighting fans with answers.
One of the first questions fielded to Hines was what exactly defines an epic RPG. Hines responded that the answer in his mind is not to be prescriptive. With Starfield There are a thousand planets to explore, you can go into a shop and steal right off the counter. Hines also alluded to the ability to steal a starship by killing the captain and crew, an idea the interviewer admitted taking note of. One of the things Hines says that he enjoys about this approach is the "water cooler conversations" where people discuss how they played and realize that there are so many different paths to take.
When it comes to combat in Starfield Pete says that it is usually the focus of players but not always. The example he uses is a player in Skyrim choosing to focus on alchemy as opposed to adventuring. For this kind of player, combat isn't much of a focus, but passive players need not fear as he mad mentioned that they will have a lot to do when Starfield comes to Xbox Games Pass on day one next year.
