Hugh Jackman Teases Wolverine Return For 'Deadpool 3'
Ever since the release of James Mangold's Logan and Hugh Jackman announcing he was hanging up the claws for good, fans have hoped and prayed that one day he would return to play the role once more. Whilst this may seem strange for an actor to become so synonymous for a role, you have to remember Jackman had played the role of Wolverine in several X-Men films starting all the way back in 2000, with the release of the very first X-Men.
Bare in mind that this was also back when superhero films were not as prevalent as they are today, and so popular was his portrayal that he effectively became the main character and mascot of the franchise. Including cameos and archive footage footage and photos, Jackman has appeared as Wolverine in a whopping 11 films over 19 years. Every X-Men movie except Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, and he even got his own trilogy. When you think of Wolverine now, you can't help but automatically think of Jackman as well.
Whilst this is an impressive feat for an actor, it came with one very huge problem. The character of Wolverine is a mutant who possesses an incredibly strong healing factor, making him age far slower than your average Joe. Hugh, however, does not. This means it was inevitable that he was going to have to step down eventually, and the longer it went on, the harder it was going to get. Logan allowed us to see a darker and more realistic version of Wolverine, and Hugh went all out for the finale. His portrayal was flawless and his final scenes brought tears to the eyes of many fans. Since then, there have been rumors abound of a possible return, but Jackman has shot every one down, until now.
It's no secret that he has a very close friendship with fellow actor Ryan Reynolds, currently famous for his portrayal of the mutant Deadpool. Both of them even appeared together in the widely panned X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Reynolds has repeatedly made fun of Hugh's portrayal as Wolverine, through interviews, social media, and even within the Deadpool films themselves. And he has, on many occasions, called him out to reprise the role in a Deadpool film so we can see their chemistry onscreen as their famous characters. Both characters have appeared together throughout various comic book storylines, so there is plenty of source material to work from.
Nonetheless, Jackman has stuck to his guns and said no, until a video was posted on his Instagram account @thehughjackman recently. The video features an officer of the New York Parks Department, Officer Dokowski, whom Jackman thought was going to give him a ticket, giving Reynolds a proposal to bring Jackman back as Wolverine in Deadpool 3. Whilst this may not seem like much, Jackman then appears to agree with the officer, suggesting he even give Reynolds a ticket if it doesn't happen.

Now, I'm fully aware that this may likely be just another example of the two friends poking fun at each other, but it is the first time, in a long time, that Jackman has even joked about returning to the role again. With Disney confirming Deadpool 3 is currently in development, maybe Reynolds has finally worn him down, even if it is just for a cameo.
What do you think? Is this just a joke, or could we finally be one step closer to the awesome team up film we all want to see?
Until next time!
