'How To Train Your Dragon' Drops Official Movie Trailer
Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for the live-action adaptation of How To Train Your Dragon. Focusing on the core of what the story is about, the trailer shows Hiccup befriending the Night Fury dragon, Toothless, breaking the Viking tradition of being dragon hunters. Aside from those two and one shot of many soldiers preparing for battle, the only other character seen is Chief Stoick the Vast. And dragons. A lot of dragons.
While Gerard Butler returns to the role of Chief Stoick the Vast, Hiccup will be portrayed by Mason Thames. Alongside Hiccup are Astrid, portrayed by Nico Parker, and quirky blacksmith Gobber, portrayed by Nick Frost. Together with Toothless, they work toward a new future where Vikings and dragons co-exist, ready to face off against the ancient threat that endangers them.

Directed by Dean DeBlois and produced by Marc Platt and Adam Siegel, How To Train Your Dragon also features the actors Murray McArthur (Game of Thrones), Peter Serafinowicz (Guardians of the Galaxy), Julian Dennison (Deadpool 2), Gabriel Howell (Bodies), Ruth Codd (The Midnight Club), Bronwyn James (Wicked), and Harry Trevaldwyn (Smothered). Having already directed the three animated adventures inspired by Cressida Cowell’s series, DeBlois knows the franchise, so it will be interesting to see the comparisons between animated and live-action films when the latter arrives in theatres on June 13, 2025.
